The Labor Share (non-farm business sector) number came out yesterday for 1st quarter 2015. (link to FRED data) It was 98.5. The number is rising. But it could be too high as an error.
One way to calculate labor share is with this equation.
Labor share = unit labor cost / CPI index
Here is the graph of the most recent data using this equation.
The blue line and the green line are supposed to track upon each other. But in the 1st quarter, labor share (green) rose above the blue line. So either labor share is being reported too high or unit labor cost is being reported too low. (There is less of a chance that the problem is CPI.) So there should be an adjustment in these numbers at some point.
But still, labor share and unit labor costs rose during the 1st quarter.
